BIOGRAPHY
Mary McGrory is an Irish artist living in the west of France. Having studied for a brief period in Cork at the Crawford College of Art and Design, the tough economic situation in Ireland in the 80s took Mary to Johannesburg where she worked in computer graphics and studied computer animation. Later after returning to Ireland she deepened her knowledge of sculpture while studying and working in Special Effects in England. Then in France she returned to drawing, studying colour in-depth using chalk pastels under local artist Héléne Cloître. Mary is also an Alumna of the Art2Life Academy after completing the Creative Visionary Program with American artist Nicholas Wilton.

Describing her creative process, Mary explains “Moved by music, I experiment with colour and texture. The resultant emotional responses lead me to the discovery of stories. I work with my feelings to free these indistinct shapes, bringing them to the surface and clarifying their story.”
The psychological landscape expressed during this story hunting, the questions, doubts, excitement and vulnerability is all there for viewers to experience, creating a connection through empathy.

"There is a lot of movement in my paintings. A feeling of new beginnings where things are changing and evolving. Positive momentum. With conviction. A leaving of something dark and foreboding towards light. Protected. Surrounded. A sense of excitement and recognition. Awe even."
